Since WHO declared COVID-19 as Public Health Emergency of International Concern, all countries have been putting all their efforts together to fight this pandemic.

Ethiopia, being the second most populous country in Africa and one of the most vulnerable countries to this disease due to the community’s style of living is also playing her parts to overcome the challenge.

Academicians, Industry Experts and Innovators from different areas are now coming with interesting ideas of designing and developing medical devices which could help Ethiopian government strengthen its response to COVID-19 Pandemic.

Within just less than one month, Ethiopian Food and Drug Authority (EFDA) has received many requests of locally manufacturing COVID-19 related medical products including personal protective equipment (face masks, face shields, aprons, doctor’s gowns, eye goggles, etc…) and even some requests of approval for their devices to assist patients in critical stage due to COVID-19 (Mechanical Ventilators, Oxygen Concentrators, etc…). In order to ensure the quick accessibility and acceptable quality, safety and performance of these devices, the innovators of the respective devices can contact and work with the respective government bodies to get support from the design level up to approval/authorization for their device’s marketing.

Accordingly, Ministry of Innovation and Technology would like to invite Innovators with new finalized innovative product design to grant with seed money for production of prototype which will later be mass produced and introduced into the market.
